about

I made these tracks back in 2009. It was the first time I opened Ableton Live - A rainy day in April I remember: I stayed in with a nasty cold, sipping away at this over-the-counter cough syrup until the bottle ran dry. It was already dark and it didn't look like I was going to accomplish much that nigh. Nothing more was to come out of me than the gross residue left in the tissue after I blew my nose one more time.

I don't know exactly how it got started. I guess it came to be quite naturally, I mean I always loved music - it was all I could think about all day. But until that very moment, that one dark, rainy night, with a runny nose and a mild cough, swallowing that last drop of syrup, I never had the guts to have a real go at it. I always kept this thought in the back of my mind, always pondered about the idea: <<what if I was to make a song out of nothing>>.

"But how do I go about trying something new?" "What would it take to do it right?" "How do I know if I'm any good at it?" These were the silly thoughts that occupied my crippled mind when I was just about to do it. So, as a consequence, I realize now that I have no actual memory of what happened that night when I first opened Ableton Live.

Pause. I was about to tell this story about my first time, you know, making music, by myself. When it all started. You see, there is a time when what was before is completely different from what came after. I wanted to describe that elegant moment of creation, that instant when you ultimately make something out of nothing. And I can't remember anything about it.

Well, something did happen. Five short beats I managed to sketch that night. Something did come out in the end and I had something to show for, the next day. I can't say what really took place, but I know I felt better about it afterwards. And that's all there was to it.

In making music over the past ten years, I have been looking to replicate that feeling ever since. Still trying.
